In 2005,
    v Our Elder Abuse Prevention Program began this year to assist in meeting the various forms of abuse an elderly person may be facing such as physical, emotional, financial and/or sexual. Our advocate provides crisis intervention, court accompaniment and services to clients. Additionally, presentations and professional training’s are provided to audiences to provide education and awareness on abuse among the elderly.
    v 120 women and children were provided with emergency shelter and case management through our Safe Home. Additionally, 3,591 shelter nights were provided.
    v 209 Latino clients were provided with comprehensive services through our Latina Advocacy Program.
    v October, 2005, the Blackstone Valley Safe Families Collaboration Project, a collaborative project with the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families and the RI Coalition Against Domestic Violence, expanded to include Woonsocket. The Project is designed to assist DCYF to identify alternative safe resources within the community in order to provide more effective and safe response for women and their children who are living in violent situations. 1,542 contacts were provided in 2005.
    v 202 individuals participated in our Community Support Groups.
    v 3,283 agency crisis helpline calls were received and 2,961 Victim of Crime Helpline calls, a project in collaboration with the Sexual Assault and Trauma Resource Center and the RI Coalition Against Domestic Violence, were received in 2005.

    v Our Transitional Housing Program increased from three units to six in 2005 thanks to a grant received through the Office of Violence Against Women. The program is designed to provide intensive services for a period of two years.
    v 500 domestic violence presentations were provided to 9,452 participants. This is an increase of 13% in the number of participants from 2004.
    v 730 victims of domestic violence in the Blackstone Valley area were provided with legal advocacy in District Court and extended services to 566 contacts.
